A million young poets
Screamin' out their words
To a world full of people
Just livin' to be heard
Future generations
Ridin' on the highways that we built
I hope they have a better understanding
- John Mellencamp, "Check It Out"
I took this fuzzy image with the camera on my cell phone.
The four of us went to see John Mellencamp in Manchester, NH, and our seats were about 8 rows from the side of the stage. I was a little nervous bringing the kids to a concert, but let's face it; they are old enough to stay up that late, have heard lots of inappropriate words and know enough not to repeat them, and most of all, can appreciate the experience. Besides, they have listened to his words and music since they were in the womb.
It's so strange to see your kids (particularly your pre-teen daughter) all dressed up and dancing and singing at a concert. In fact, Caroline's head is barely visible in the shadows of this video, recorded the night of the show. Danny, while far more reserved, seemed to be soaking the entire experience in.
It was a lot of fun. I'm sure people don't understand why I like his music so much. But what it really boils down to is that he tells great stories about things I find interesting; and he does it with great music...I could listen to the electric violin all day.
