Profiling

Over the last few weeks, I have been writing and posting player profiles on the Chelmsford Hockey Association's website for each kid on Danny's hockey team. I thought it would be a good way for us, as coaches, to get to know the kids, and for them to get to know each other a little better. They are not your typical 'hockey kids' (that's a good thing). They generally are quiet, and tough to read. But, they are all good kids, and I have enjoyed doing the profiles and seeing them grow and develop into good hockey players as well.

When it came time to do Danny's profile, I thought it would not be right for me to be the one asking him the questions and writing the profile. I asked John Doherty (THE coach - and perhaps the best baseball and hockey coach in all of Chelmsford) to write Danny's profile. Here is how it looked:

Danny also has made the jump straight from our CHA In House program right into Squirts (which is the case with 13 out of our 17 players). Danny got his nickname from me during Summer Baseball. He was named after the character from Ice Age who showed quite a nose for acorns, just like Danny does for baseballs - chasing every hit, overthrow or error wherever it lands. Danny exhibits that same style with his hockey. You will very seldom see the puck when he is on the ice without seeing Danny around it or with it, no matter what position he’s playing. But more than the nose he has for the puck or ball, I have yet to meet a more competitive 9 year old in my 5 plus years of coaching. Whether it’s a baseball or hockey game, or if he is just playing wiffle-ball, wall-ball or knee-hockey with friends, you are getting every bit of him, so you had better be ready. Danny is a very coach able kid, who also gets my sense of humor - which I’m not sure is a good thing or not…
