I am very tired - tired of working so hard to get the ice in decent shape, only to have a 'weather event' make it unskateable. This week has been a series of steps - backwards and forwards.
Tuesday PM
Snow and rain in the evening left 'crap ice'. Went to hockey. Lost 4-0 to a team we beat twice this year. BUT (I love big 'buts'), since our last meeting they picked up Andy Heinz (brother of former Bruin Steve Heinz) as a center, and their goalie was just one year out of Merrimack College (that would be Division 1 hockey Merrimack College). I was amazed (and jealous) at how quick and smooth they were. Once again, I am starting to realize I might not get drafted by an NHL team....Drove home from Haverhill tired and a 'loser'.
Wednesday
Ice was crap in the morning. Shoveled. Spent day trying not to think about ice. Flooded ice before leaving again for hockey, hoping for a miracle. "Flurries with little or no accumulation" began falling. Played an hour an a half 'pick up' in Lowell. Great skate and very fast. Only 2 subs per side. Came home at midnight, tired, and the "flurries with little or no accumulation" had accumulated, a lot.
Thursday
Ice was crap in the morning. Part frozen slush and part eaten corn on the cob. Shoveled rink. Shoveled driveway, walkway, and neighbors' driveways. Spent day trying to avoid thinking about rink. Came home from Squirt practice tonight and flooded it real good. Lots of water, hoping it filled in as many nooks and crannies (mmmm. Thomas' English Muffin, with butter and grape jelly) as possible.
Looking at the weather forecast, this weekend looks like my last stand. I have put my stick in the ground, and let the pucks fall where they may.
