Great Expectations

Thursday, 3:00pm
I pushed my timetable up a bit and put the liner down this afternoon in the relative warmth of the 40 degree temperatures. Friend and neighbor Jim gave me a hand and it took us only a few minutes. I put snow on the edge of the liner to keep it from lifting up in the wind. Normally I use 2x4's for that purpose but nature has saved me some labor.

Thursday, 3:30pm
The hose went in and Danny and I went off to hockey practice while it filled. I will only put a few inches of water in (4" in the deep end and 1" in the shallow end) until the snow falls tomorrow.

Thursday, 4:15pm
Looking kind of 'white-trashy' in the setting sun. Not the look Deb is looking for I am sure.

Thursday, 8:00pm
The rink has a couple of inches of water in the deep end and the water level is creeping up towards the shallow end.

Thursday, 8:30pm
As time passes the temperature drops below freezing. My hope is that the ice that forms tonight will simply absorb the snow tomorrow, turning it into a slush. The slush will then freeze solid as temperatures will stay below freezing for a few days.

That's my plan and those are my Great Expectations; but things rarely go according to plan when you build and maintain your own backyard rink.

Ah, Mr Scooter I am becoming more blog savy.Hopping from one to another. Do "Lady's" and "Angels" get to figure skate on your mighty rink?

I have all this time because I am perhaps the luckiest man in all of New England.

G.A. - Perhaps your blog savyishness (new word I just invented) has taken you to some of my previous posts and you have already answered your own question.
