On Second Thought

At this time last year I was consumed by it. I would dwell, think, and obsess about how - or if -it would work. I was buying on ebay, searching on Google, and plotting on paper. I was watering grass seed, measuring the area, and building the boards. "How will I hang the netting? How do I make the lighting work? Will the frame really hold the pressure of the ice?" These are just some of the many unanswered questions I had.

To this point, I haven't given the 2007/08 Millin Four-em a thought. The leveling of the yard, the purchasing of the materials, and the planning of the structure was all done last year. I have a few changes in mind that I will have to incorporate into last year's model, but nothing that will require much time or expense (famous last words).

Besides, it still feels like summer out there. Last year our first skate did not occur until the middle of January - that's still 3 months away! I'm looking forward to the rink, but am in no hurry.

Here is what I am thinking for a schedule:
End of October: End boards set-up. Strengthen and repair actual rink boards where cracked, paint where needed. Have kids do some logo design and painting on endboards I made.
End of November: Set up frame and supports. Netting and lighting installed. Purchase liner.

I am sure there is more to add to the list, but I can't think of anything right now. Last year I was prepared - maybe too prepared. This year I am relaxed...I hope not too relaxed.
