A Flood of Thoughts

How do you know you are old and boring? You come home from playing hockey and look forward to going out and flooding your rink with your Rink Rake.

I put my mp3 on, get out the hose, turn on the hot water, open the Bud Light, and make like a Zamboni. The part I like best is, when I am done spreading the thin layer of water on the ice, I like to sit on the bench I made and watch the water freeze. It's actually more fun than watching water boil. Try it some time. I like that it is dark (save for the 1200 combined watts of lights I have on), quiet, and takes me back to walking on the frozen lake at my parent's cottage in NH on New Year's eve when I was younger...much younger. Not that I want to relive those days; Just the opposite. But there is something about the night, the cold, and the ice that makes me think harder and clearer.

Hey Scott, I know exactly what you’re saying. I tell my friends, “I have to get home to water my ice”, and they look at me as if I were nuts. Nothing like sitting under a full moon and looking at something you have built from the ground up. Fighting Mother-nature the way a sailor fights the ocean to get a skate-able surface, and then visualizing the excitement of your children as they skate. I get such solitude from that, something my ex-wife (who btw keeps looking for spirituality through Zen, Buddhism etc.) just didn’t get.

I check out your blog everyday. First I look at yahoo groups and then over to the Millen Four-um to see any now pictures you have posted.

Thank you sharing
