When I was about 4 or 5, I would walk from our house in Rowley, MA, to the Post Office in the center of town to pick up our mail. The town was really small, and my Dad was the minister, so it seemed like everyone knew him. Folks would say, "Hi Reverend! How are you?" He'd always reply, "good-an-you?" For the longest time, I used to think goodanyou was a word. That little story came to mind because when I say Hannu Toivonen, it makes me think of that story.
Good Hannu
Hannu Toivonen is currently the #2 goaltender for the Boston Bruins. On Thursday night, he made a scheduled appearance at the Chelmsford Forum (the other Forum in Chelmsford) on behalf of the Boston Bruins Foundation. Danny, and anyone else who donated $5, got a chance to skate around on the Forum ice with him. Then Danny got his Bruins jersey autographed by Hannu during a sit down autograph session. It was a frigid night inside the rink, there were lots of loud, crazy people (must've been people from Billerica), and Hannu was stuck there skating around with them, and then sitting and signing for them. But he was extremely friendly and accommodating. He talked to the kids, said "no" to scary looking adult autograph seekers who were trying to pull him away from them, and patiently fulfilled his committment.
I can think of dozens of other things he might rather have been doing instead. But I am grateful he went because it made Danny's week. The boy was smiling from ear to ear, and he proudly wore his autographed jersey to school today where, "everyone wanted to touch it!" Danny has liked Hannu since he was a starter for the Bruins last year, and it is always nice when someone you admire is nice to you. Thanks for being so good Hannu.
Current Temp at 9:30 pm: 3 degrees! And I'm going out to skate
