...One Giant Leap For Dan's Kind."
Danny took the first steps on the ice. Then he was joined by Jimmy, our friend and neighbor, who proved that the ice was strong enough to withstand a falling body. Then I too went out on the ice and heard some settling but no cracking.
I took the strapping and overlapping liner down off the endboards, and put up the kickplates to protect the remaining liner that sits above ice level. As I was doing this, I was thinking how wonderful I was, and how great it will be for us to skate on said rink. Lost in my greatness, I didn't notice the water seeping in from the edges next to where I was standing. Before I knew it I had a good inch or two of water around me. Not wanting to abandon screws and sharp pointy objects, I quickly finished the job and got off ASAP! I used my squeegee (yes, I have a squeegee) to spread the water around evenly as best I could. Then I got the heck off. The ice looks like Skate 3's ice in July after they are done using the zamboni on it - those who skate there know that isn't good.
Bottom Line: Excess water refroze, is bumpy and messy, but it is solid ice again and hopefully I can address that later.
Weather Forecast: NOT GOOD. Tonight is snow. Tomorrow is wet snow. 3-6 inches total. BAD, BAD, BAD.
