It started snowing about 1:30 am last night. I know this because after getting a serious spanking from another HPuck team, I fell asleep on the couch watching the Calgary Flames (a couple of players looked familiar) play the Atlanta Thrashers. I woke up, and it was snowing.
2:20 pm - we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground. The snow has turned to sleet, and it's pelting the windows. It even drove the kids in from sledding. And my rink is sleeping peacefully under a blanket of snow. I am going to leave the snow there and hope the sleet settles on top of it and does not bother the surface.
5:30 pm -The sleet turned back to snow late this afternoon. My strategy of using the snow to protect the ice has worked. There are light flurries now, and the temperature is going to drop significantly tonight so I figured it would be best to clear the ice. A nice little thing about the endboards is that I can use the snowblower up against the boards, and the discharge chute clears the top by an inch! It's as if I knew what I was doing! Also worth mentioning is that Deb, Caroline, and Danny all helped shovel - without being asked. Thanks guys!

Hey Scott, kids were off from school on Tuesday and I spent the day with my little one (Emmie). We went sledding and then over to McDonalds for some burgers. After that we went to the city library to meet a player from our local AHL hockey team the Chicago Wolves. The player was Jim Sharrow, he’s a nice kid and he made the little kids laugh. Anyways, it snowed all day Tuesday and by 7pm when we got home the rink had 8” and more was on the way. But Emmie got her skates on and helped me shovel. She also was having fun skating and falling in the fresh powder and rolling around. She’s too young to really help but the fact that she wanted to help was well worth it.
