Temperature at 5:00 pm: 32 degrees
The rink took on a new personality today. It showed it's feminine, softer side as Caroline had a few of her friends over after school. Rebecca, Laura, Delaney, and Caroline took to the ice for an hour and a half. It was Rebecca's first time on ice skates and she did great! Delaney is a pro and was twirling to her heart's content. Laura did ice angels, and talked a LOT.
Such a different experience from the boys. With Danny and his friends the energy level is almost frantic. They skate fast, talk fast, and never stop doing anything. The girls are much more deliberate. They are silly, giggly in fact, but always seem to have a plan. And they, all being the oldest sibling in their families, are much more self sufficient than the boys.
Instead of playing hockey, they used their sticks as they played "town". The nets were used as houses. I heard sentences like "I'll be the mistress" (I am really hoping they meant it in the colonial sense), "this will be our mode of transportation", and "we must get our specimens of ice". Normally I hear "and he is slammed into the boards!", or "pretend I'm Chara". It was nice to see Caroline and her friends have the Four-em all to themselves. They played, we had pizza, and they didn't want to leave at the end of the day. Happiness doesn't always have to be hockey.
