"I'm Not Dead Yet!"

When I walk to the car, past the big chunk of thawing ice I once called the rink, I look at it not with disapointment, but rather satisfaction. I was resigned to the fact that warmer temperatures are here to stay and skating in the backyard will have to wait until next winter....

NOT! It's cold baby, and I smell ice!
Can you smell it?! Sniff, sniff. I can. Smells sort of like a Coleman cooler that someone hasn't cleaned in a while, but I smell it; and I like it.

Temps are below freezing now and are expected to be that way for a few days. I have a lot of work to do to get it ready as it's a mess - shoveling first. Then some passes with The MIM (if you don't know what that is you haven't been paying attention). Finally, some praying that it works. I put my foot through it yesterday - oops - I stuck my hand through the hole and the ice was as thick as the length of my hand so it will be fine. I shouldn't have stepped where the sun hits it longest and strongest.

The kids (I lump myself in that category) are excited to do one more lap together. Even Deb was telling the boys at the boardroom dinner tonight that they are pansies for complaining about the cold. My woman smells it too. Sniff, sniff. Smells like ice!
Udated Tuesday, March 6th at 9:30 am.
Danny and I skated for 45 minutes before school this morning. It was 5 degrees and windy but we didn't care. The ice was in good shape - just a couple of areas in the corners where it was bumpy. The skating and a few more passes with The MIM and it will be as good as new. Danny's bus came as we were on the ice (oops). All these little faces were watching us out the windows and I wanted to have them all out there with us.

(if you don't know what that is you haven't been paying attention)... I didn't know there was going to be a quiz. Can you make it an open book?
