"Takin' 'Em Down, Board By Board"

"Heaven is a lonely place, They're takin' down those golden gates"

I drilled a 3/4" hole through the side boards and liner on the deepest part of the rink and stuck a hose in the hole. The water inside the rink drained right through the hose, down my driveway, and into a drain in the street. The hole will not cause any problems in the future. In fact, if I will use it again for the very same purpose.

After about a day of draining, I was able to take advantage of the sunny weather and slice up some of the liner and roll it into medium sized bundles, almost like a sleeping bag. The bundles were taped w/ duct tape to keep them together and brought to the curb for trash pickup. It's sort of a sad, lonely job that doesn't give me the satisfaction I get from putting the rink up...it's similar to taking down the Christmas tree. I preferred to go it alone. Sort of a perverse satisfaction I got feeling sorry for myself. There is still a large amount of snow on some shady sections of the liner and I will just wait for that to melt before cutting that up too. The grass underneath is in great shape. Still green.

Danny is lobbying me to keep the end boards up thru the summer - for baseball and wiffleball purposes. I am reluctant only because the wood will rot so much quicker if I leave it out. The middle end boards have a pressure treated frame, but the boards I made on either side do not. Still not sure if I should leave the netting up as that will become weathered quicker. And if I leave the netting up then why not the lights? The small frame boards and bolts/nuts will be taken apart when it gets a little warmer. I need to figure out where I can store all of this!
