Groovin'
We've had lots of wet, heavy snow flurries, followed by frigid temperatures and wind gusts of upwards of 50 mph. I shoveled the rink just after the snow fell, and just as the cold and wind was approaching. Much to my surprise, the surface of the rink wasn't too bad - some ice, some snowice, and some slush. A good flooding with the hose and it was downright skateable.
Danny and I went out Monday night, after dark, and played hockey for an hour. We passed, took one-timers, and did fancy stuff that we would never get away with during a game.
I had already given Danny a couple of '5-minute warnings', and when I finally told him it was time to go inside Danny asked, "Do you think this will be our last skate this winter?" I stopped scraping the ice and said, "No. We should have at least a couple more skates." Danny replied, "Can I have a couple of more laps, just in case it is". :)
One structural change I made this year was to add 'half walls' on the side of the rink that faces the driveway. This was to cut down on the amount of junk that blows up from the street and lands on the rink. As you can see from this picture, it seems to have worked. Most of that sand you see would be making my ice unuseable.
