Caroline and Danny, beneficiaries of a half day due to the storm, took last year's ice from the bag and tossed it into this year's water filled rink. I like the symbolism of this ritual (a ritual I did not create). It reflects continuity and the carrying over of lessons learned and experiences shared in years past. It symbolizes that while we may change - and our lives definitely change - the ice we make today is filled with the same hope and promise of seasons past. Today I remember Jack Falla and think of his family, particularly his son Brian, as he carries on the tradition of the Bacon Street Omni.

Mixed Rinks
Buried in our freezer, next to some frozen peas, under a neglected Popsicle from the summer months we didn't spend here, and lying on top of some old, ground beef dated 9/13/08, was a freezer-bag filled with ice chunks from last year's rink. They were 'bagged and tagged' in late March and have been stored in our freezer since.

Is the H20 flowing into the rink yet ? Inquiring minds want to know when it will be ready for action !
The Robes Arena is seeing it's first action even as I type this - I checked it out this morning and it looked a little bumpy but the mad scraping of skate blades and friction caused by the sliding of stick blades, pucks and out of control bodies should fix that...
