Weathering the Risk/Reward Dilemma

3 inches of snow fell the other night so I shoveled my yard after I did the walkway and driveway. Below freezing temperatures are expected and the long term forecast looks promising, making the decision to drop the liner and fill an easy one...but nothing is ever easy. Forecasts call for snowfall over the weekend.

My hope is to put the liner down Friday morning so that the snow melts into the water and helps to fill it. Then the freezing temperatures will arrive at nightfall and a slushy rink will freeze solid and give me a nice base to work with.

However, if the snow keeps falling long after the slush begins to freeze (but isn't solid enough for me to shovel) and gathers on top I will have a lot of work to do. In years past I have been patient and was willing to wait until January to fill. But, with the season being a relatively short one I am inclined to take the risk of more work for the reward of skating on Christmas morning.

Scott,

You are always such a risk-taker. It does appear to be a dilemma since they are already closing schools in anticipation of Friday's storm.

Good to read in earlier entry that you now have warm water access.
