Pride

I love a great speech and I love a great song. When you combine the two it gives me goose bumps.

U2's song about Martin Luther King, Jr., called Pride (In the Name of Love), is a single from their Unforgettable Fire album. Pride is a song I like to turn up loud when I am alone in the car, and I like to imagine that things in the world aren't as bad as they seem. It's a song I like the kids to hear. It gives me hope.

Things seem pretty bleak in the world today. I can't help but wonder what it must have been like to have lived in America when JFK, MLK, and RFK were assassinated and civil rights marches, rioting, and the war in Vietnam were in the headlines. Why don't we learn from our mistakes and why can't we figure out how to overcome hatred?

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come, he to justify
One man to overthrow

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed on an empty beach.
One man betrayed with a kiss

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love(nobody like you...)

Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love...

Scott,

Yet another great message, Mr. Literary Talent. I am so glad that you didn't live in that era (you just missed it!) Yet, you have captured what so many of us felt and still feel.

Keep up the good work.
